Who we are

Our story, our board, our mission.

Our Purpose

American Foster Futures (AFF) is a national nonprofit founded in Oakland, CA in 2025 dedicated to empowering foster youth by advocating for systemic improvements in state and federal policies and providing nationwide access to educational, housing and transitioning out of care services through virtual and community-based programs. Foster youth lack access to traditional family and social structures that create the foundation for achieving educational success by graduating from high school, college or trade school. Additionally, the combination of varying levels of traumatic experience, lack of stable living conditions and abusive or negative parental relationships results in higher rates of criminal conviction, homelessness, drug addiction and mental health issues than those youth not in foster care. Through its Texas Plan to replicate successful tuition waiver models state-by-state, a Reciprocity Campaign to allow cross-state use of waivers, and direct services including housing assistance, employment support, mental health resources and financial literacy, AFF seeks to break the cycle of disadvantage, equipping foster youth with the tools to achieve independence and thrive.

We are organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
